CONTRACTOR PLANNING GUIDE

SPT-1 vs SPT-2 Wire for Christmas Installs

Match the wire designation, plug fit, and actual product ratings before assembly.

Read the marking first

SPT-1 and SPT-2 are wire designations, not interchangeable shopping labels. Inspect the supplied wire marking and product instructions before choosing a plug. Peak Season Supply currently lists SPT-1 lamp wire and SPT-1 male and female plugs. Do not assume the socket line uses the same designation until its supplied specifications confirm it.

Match the connector to the wire

Slide-on connectors are designed for a particular cord profile. Use the connector type approved for the exact cord, rather than forcing a plug onto a different insulation thickness. A connector that looks similar in a photo is not proof of fit. Check polarity, cover closure, and approved end treatment in the supplied instructions.

Do not infer an electrical limit

Wire designation alone does not establish the safe load of a complete lighting run. The wire, plugs, sockets, bulbs, power source, and product instructions all matter. Do not borrow a wattage or amperage limit from another supplier’s product. Ask for the actual model’s voltage, conductor information, listing, intended environment, and maximum run/load requirements.

Build the purchasing list

Record lit socket-line footage separately from unlit lamp-wire transitions. Count male and female connections based on the approved run plan, then round each plug type to 25-count packs. Lamp wire is sold in 250-foot lengths. If you already own SPT-2 components, identify them clearly and confirm fit before mixing supplies. Disconnect power for assembly and inspection.

Frequently asked questions

Does Peak sell SPT-2 lamp wire?

The current catalog lists SPT-1 lamp wire. Call about needs outside the catalog.

Can I use an SPT-1 plug on SPT-2 cord?

Use only the plug designated and approved for the supplied cord; do not force mismatched components.

Does SPT-2 automatically mean a higher safe load?

Do not infer a safe run limit from the designation alone. Follow the ratings of the actual complete system.
